We hosted our popular Careers Fair on Thursday 23rd November. Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 were welcomed to the event with their parents/carers.

Our Careers Fair provides our young people with the opportunity to seek face to face careers information, advice and guidance; students were able to receive specific and personally relevant information about a wide range of careers opportunities, including the entry routes and training requirements for each area.

As in previous years, there were a wide range of delegates present including;

Actemium Design, Amber True Bearing Financial Advisors, Assystem, Axiologik, BAE, Balltec LTD, C.I.P.R., D and G Builders, Element Materials Technology, Eric Wright Construction, Harrison Drury, Institute of Civil Engineers, Lancashire NHS Teaching Hospitals, Leyland Trucks, Local Authority Building Control, Manchester Money, Myerscough College, Preston College, Royal Navy, Runshaw College, South Ribble Borough Council, Springfield Fuels, The Army, The Institute of Civil Engineers, UCLan, UKRI Science & Technology Facilities Council, Vantage Motor Group, Wigan and Leigh College, along with CareerNorth, the company who provide our young people with independent careers advice and guidance in school. They were here to talk about and discuss careers, local labour market information and post 16 options.

The Careers Fair is just one element of a comprehensive package of careers education, information, advice and guidance provided in school. The success of this offer is demonstrated by the fact that the percentage of students staying in education or employment for at least 2 terms after they leave Balshaw’s is 4% higher than the national average and 5% higher than the local authority average. To add to this the number of students in apprenticeships for at least 6 months after leaving Balshaw’s is more than double the national average for school leavers. We even welcomed back several former students representing their organisations.

We thank all the delegates for their time and thank you to everyone who came along on the evening.

Here are some photographs from the evening:
