Wavertree Swimming Event

Three of our Year 7 students took part in the Wavertree Swim Event in May 2022.

Honor L has been swimming from a young age. Honor swims for Preston Swimming Club and trains for a total of 13 ½ hours a week. She has a very early start to her swimming days of 4am Monday and Thursday. Honor swims from 5am to 7am, before heading back to Leyland to get ready for her school day. In the Wavertree competition she swam faster than her qualifying times for her age group in thirteen of the races, swam faster than her entry times in 7 races and is currently swimming in a higher age category than her age. Honor got a PB for 100M freestyle of 1:06.76 and for the 200M freestyle 2:23.35 which knocked seconds off her previous PB.

Beth A has been training since she was aged 5 and currently swims at Leyland Leisure Centre and Tarleton High School around 6 times a week, both in the evenings and at the weekends. During the competition at the weekend Beth knocked 8 seconds off her PB for 400M freestyle and 3 seconds of her PB for 100M breast stroke.

Maiya T has been having swimming lessons since she was between 2 to 3 years of age and training since she was 4. Maiya trains at Leyland Leisure Centre and Tarleton High school 6 times a week for a total of 9 hours.

During the Wavertree event in April, Maiya got a PB in 100M breast stroke and also swam in the 50M butterfly, 50M breast stroke and the 200M breast stroke.

Chorley Marlins Gala

In June 2022, Alex M, in Year 9, took part in the Chorley Marlins Gala at Darwen Leisure Centre. Alex competed in the over 14s category in the following events: 50M freestyle, 50M breast stroke,50M butterfly and 200M freestyle. It was the first time that Alex had competed in the 200M freestyle and her time was 2:45s. Alex won a silver medal in the 50M freestyle and a silver medal in the 50M breast stroke.
