As part of their Science lessons on Genetics, our Year 9 students have been exploring the issues surrounding selective breeding, using specific plants or animals as examples. This has been particularly relevant to the recent news stories regarding 'white eggs vs brown eggs', supermarkets trying to persuade chicken farmers that there is public demand for larger eggs, with the obvious effects to the chickens that have to lay them, and the always enjoyable Crufts dog show where many examples of selective breeding were on show.
